Questions About

Bridal Flowers

Are there different styles of wedding bouquets for me to choose from?

There is a huge range of styles and designs for you to choose from. Maybe you picture a simple & elegant bouquet using a single variety of flower. Or a luxurious and romantic hand-tied bouquet filled with a mix of flowers and foliage. How about a fabulous trailing teardrop bouquet where each flower is individually wired into a bouquet holder or a dramatic bouquet using a hand-made frame and statement flowers.

Let me guide you through all of the different styles and help you choose one to suit you.

What other bridal flowers may I need?

You may have bridesmaids that you picture holding a bouquet as they walk up the aisle! It could be a smaller version of your bouquet, or perhaps a simpler version with the colour palette altered slightly. But we clearly want you and your bouquet to be the star!

Perhaps you are considering having flower girls so there are pretty wands or baskets filled with flowers that you may like. Depending on their ages, maybe a smaller bridesmaid bouquet may be suitable.

You will need a buttonhole for the groom which would be made using the same flowers used in the bridal bouquet. But tell him not to worry, it isn’t going to be ginormous! Also, any male attendants and Dads would normally have a simplified version of the groom’s buttonhole.

Best not to forget Mums and any other female members of the wedding party. Mums do tend to like wearing a corsage just so everyone knows they are the Mums of the bride and groom!

So, the chaps wear their buttonholes over their heart & ladies wear corsages on the right because ladies are always right!!

How many different flowers should be in my bouquet?

This will depend on the style you have in mind for your bouquet. If you have a romantic and luxurious style in mind, it would be filled with flowers such as big blowsy roses and peonies. If you imagine a clean and elegant style, it might be made using only one flower such as a very beautiful calla lily. Perhaps you imagine a ‘just run through a field’ look, in which case your bouquet would be filled with fabulous country style flowers and foliage.

There is a huge choice of bouquet style and flower choice that we can offer. But don’t worry, I will guide you through it all. Quite often it is the case of taking lots of different elements that you love and putting them all together to create your dream wedding bouquet.

Your bouquet style, once chosen, sets the feel for all of your wedding flowers so we will take our time over this and choose something that you absolutely love and will fill you with excitement!

Can you provide flowers to dress my hair?

Yes, we can! You could have small fresh flower clusters that your hairdresser can pin into your hair in a scattered style or group them all together to create a stronger look. Or a hand-made floral crown that could be fine and elegant or something more substantial using larger headed flowers.

How about an Alice band dressed with flowers and pearls for any flower girls? These work well if they are quite young and if someone will be holding their hand up the aisle, it keeps their hands free.

Share with us any inspirational images that you may have seen and I can advise if fresh flowers will work. There is always the option of using silk flowers too as they are much lighter and maybe more comfortable if you envisage wearing a flower crown all day.

So much choice!

Where can we use flowers to decorate our wedding?

The choice is endless and as far as you can imagine it! There are romantic floral archways or floral columns to dress your ceremony or church entrance perhaps. Flowers for your ceremony may include a floral centrepiece for your ceremony table – imagine how fabulous it will look in your photos of you both when you are signing the wedding register! You could have flowers up the aisle or scattered rose petals. There are larger statement floral arrangements such as urns of flowers and pedestal arrangements. All elements from the ceremony I would recommend we look to relocate and use at the wedding reception.

For your wedding reception, you will need flowers on the top table and on your guest tables. Imagine creating that wow-factor for your guests! You could have a mix of tall floral centrepieces with low floral centrepieces. There are two benefits to doing this – you get a nice mix of different heights across the room and it may help with budgeting as the taller designs are likely to be more expensive than the low designs.

There are plenty of suggestions for dressing around your venue too. Maybe using candlelight, vases of flowers, lanterns and other venue décor elements.

You may imagine having a statement floral hanging installation and we can guide you through all of the ideas for this. Floral chandeliers, hanging ladder installations, floral ceilings or maybe simple but elegant single stems of flowers hanging from the ceiling, you choose!

It is my job to show you all of the possibilities and match them to your style and vision!

Can we re-use the flowers from the ceremony for our wedding reception?

Absolutely, this is a must! I would always recommend that we do this. The flowers for your ceremony will be gorgeous so why wouldn’t you want your guests to be able to see them all day. Flowers are expensive too, so I want to make sure that you get the absolute most from them.

We can chat about the ideas you have for your ceremony and wedding reception and look at the options that will work well for making use of the flowers in both settings.

Your wedding flowers are set up on the morning of the wedding and I am very happy to offer a service where we can relocate all of the flowers used in your ceremony to your wedding reception. We can have a talk through how this works in more detail at our consultation.

Will you dress the venue?

Having established with you the vision for your wedding, we will provide all of the floral designs and venue décor required. Everything is set up on the morning of the wedding and a conversation will take place with your venue to organise the planning and scheduling of this. I would also speak to any other venue styling suppliers you are using and make sure we coordinate everything.

We want to make absolutely sure that everything goes to plan on the day. I don’t want to arrive at your venue to find out that your wedding reception room is still in the middle of being draped and fairy lights installed for example, at the time we want to dress your venue and put your flowers on the tables!

The following day everything that is hired to you, such as glassware and candles are collected by my team.

Can you provide vases and accessories?

Yes, there is a huge range of vases and accessories for you to choose from. From tall and low glassware in a range of styles, tall and low elegant silver candelabra and dramatic geometric stands. There is a huge choice of candle holders available, hurricane vases, cylinder vases all in a range of sizes, a wide selection of votive holders for you to choose from and we will source all of the candles and tea-lights that you may need. There are lanterns for dressing the aisle, trees for your ceremony and not forgetting floral chandeliers, hanging installations and fabulous ceremony archways.

We are constantly adding to our accessory collection so just say if you have seen something that you like the idea of.

Can you provide flowers for our cake?

Most certainly! Once you have chosen the style of cake, we can take a look at how you envisage dressing the cake with fresh flowers. You could have flowers sitting on the top tier of the cake and this is known as a cake topper, so easy to remember! You could have little groups of flowers placed around the cake, perhaps on each tier and these are called cake corsages. There is always the option too to have flowers dressing a whole tier of the cake and for this, we place individually wired flowers into a dummy tier provided by the cake maker.

Alternatively, fresh flowers can be provided directly to the cake maker for them to dress the cake. They would then wire and dress the cake in the style you have agreed.

Depending on how complicated the floral design is on the cake, I would organise a discussion with the cake maker. We will come to a very good working arrangement so both parties are comfortable, I don’t want to touch the cake too much and the cake maker is happy!

Would you be able make something floral for my pet?

Oh, I love making flowers for pets! Are you imagining your pooch bringing the wedding rings up the aisle? They could have a gorgeous collar of flowers hand-made to suit the breed of your dog perfectly. Their dog lead could also be replaced by a garland of foliage.

Maybe you are going to ride your horse to the church? Their bridle could be dressed with flowers! Or maybe you have a pet alpaca and would like a fabulous collar of flowers for them.

Just let me know your pet and I’ll come up with some fantastic ideas for them to be a star on your wedding day!

Would you work with my other wedding suppliers?

Most definitely, it is very important that there is a good relationship between all of your wedding suppliers. Once we have discussed the ideas for your wedding flowers, we would talk through any wedding suppliers that you are using – marquee companies, venue stylists, cake makers, caterers, photographers and any others.

It is so important that everything goes to plan on the day and that absolutely everything has been thought through and planned in detail. Nobody wants any surprises on a wedding day.

I don’t want to arrive at your venue to find out that your wedding reception room is still in the middle of being draped and fairy lights installed for example, at the time I want to dress your venue and put your flowers on the tables! We don’t want the cake maker to be waiting for us on-site if we are providing fresh flowers for the cake!

It’s all in the little details. I’m here to help and make sure your ceremony and wedding reception flowers look fabulous amongst everything else you are planning!

What budget do we need for wedding flowers?

That is a tough one to answer simply. There are various factors to take into consideration. Each wedding is unique and the look and feel you would like will be individual to both of you and the style you dream of for your wedding.

Flowers can be an expensive part of your wedding but they will play a huge part in setting the vibe and style of the day. Do you want to have your guests being stunned by dramatic flowers and saying ‘wow’ or are you looking for a more romantic, softer feel? It will depend on the scale you envisage and the volume of flowers required to create that look.

There is a view that the average couple should budget to spend between 10-20% of their overall wedding budget on flowers. I will always suggest that we look to re-use all of the flowers from the wedding ceremony and relocate them for the wedding reception. The flowers for your ceremony will be gorgeous so why wouldn’t you want your guests to be able to see them all day. It is important to make sure that you get the absolute most from them.

A guide for your bridal bouquet would be pricing starting from £130 - £150 for a bridal hand-tied bouquet through to £160 - £180 for a bridal teardrop bouquet where each stem is individually wired into a bouquet holder. Prices will depend on the flowers you would like to include and the time taken to create a beautiful bridal bouquet.

The majority of your flower budget will be spent on dressing the venue and in particular your top table and guest tables. Potentially you will have the cost of a table centrepiece (£xx) times the number of tables. Table centrepiece prices range from £60 per table to several hundred pounds per table, it will depend on the size and scale of the arrangement and also the flower content needed to create the vision you have.

You may be comfortable discussing your budget or you may not have any idea about the cost of wedding flowers! Don’t worry, this is something I can help you with and once we have spoken about your wish list and put together a design proposal, you will have a better feel for the costs. From there we would have another conversation to drill drown into all of the designs discussed and can then fine-tune the proposal to fit with your budget.

Budgeting is certainly something that I would be keen to work with you on, we all need to budget!

Are some flowers only available at certain times of year?

That’s a great question! If you have you heart set on peonies, then a September wedding will not be the best, you would need to aim for May! There are some flowers such as peonies and spring bulbs, that have a very short growing season so there are certain times of year that they are not available.

We aim to work with seasonal flowers as much as we can, that way we know that they are at their best and we are using the finest quality of flower that are available. There are flowers such as roses that we can get all year round and they will only have a few seasonal restrictions.

I am also very happy to include a few beautiful silk flowers in your bouquet for example, if there is a particular flower that is not in season and you really can’t imagine your wedding without it.

It’s a bit like having an Eton Mess with strawberries – they taste so much better when they are in season! Just let me know if there is a flower that is important to you to include and I will guide you through what will work best for your wedding.

When will you deliver our flowers?

How exciting, your wedding day has arrived!

Everything is delivered on the day of the wedding ready for us to set up all of the floral décor as planned. We will come and find you in your bridal room to deliver your bouquets. We are quite used to see brides with their bridesmaids in dressing gowns, sitting on hair and makeup stools all in a state of excitement getting ready. All of the bouquets will be delivered in a little water to keep them fresh, all you will need to do is dry them slightly before you set off for the ceremony – but don’t worry we will remind you about all of this when we see you!

We will setup any flowers for the ceremony perhaps at your venue or a local church. Then it’s on to dressing your venue for the wedding reception. Everything is planned in so much detail. I am also happy to offer a service where we can relocate all of the flowers used in your ceremony onto your wedding reception. We can have a talk through how this works in more detail at our consultation.

Hope you are now so excited and can picture it all coming together for your wedding day!
